I want to share some of my favorite bands and ask questions to people who I looked up to growing up involved in the hardcore scene in Detroit. I thought it would be interesting to share some of my experiences and hear stories from people ranging from band members to show promoters and zine creators. Even as far as photographers and bartenders. I want to understand how we all ended up in the same rooms, and be fortunate enough to share the same culture with a small group of people across the globe. Hardcore means the world to a lot of people but some have moved on to a more routine lifestyle. That being said, my mission is to shake up the memories that a lot of us have and reinvigorate the hardcore scene since the pandemic has taken away what we love for so long now. We all take away certain things and share a common set of values and I think that is also important to recognize. Without hardcore, I would not be who I am today and so many people can agree. Lucky for us, we can have these conversations and preserve and pass on what we love. I hope you enjoy it as much as I like creating it. You already know by the title this is a banger! Mikey Hood has been involved in Hardcore for a very long time and has been through it all. We talk about the Westcoast hardcore scene and his relationship with Detroit. And of course we go over Victory Records fun stuff.
Lots of good stories and good talks about touring, guns and just insane people stuff. We're both crazy so it's what should be expected. We do talk about how his barber business has survived under the restrictions ongoing in California and opinions on what's actually happening.
You either agree or disagree and that's ok. I hope the listeners are as open minded as I am and don't hate people because they disagree with your politics or whatever the fuck you feel on ANY topic. Except racists, and pedophiles. We kill racists and torture pedophiles.
Please share or subscribe or whatever you're supposed to do to help a brother out.
Love you guys, thanks for everything!

This episode was a fun one. Just a Sunday afternoon bullshit session. We didn't talk too much hardcore this week, just a fun conversation about Muay Thai, good times and whatever else. Jam is a fun guy to talk to. He's had plenty of experiences and done a lot of cool shit.
I think it's good to break it up from strictly hardcore and talk some every day stuff every once in a while. If you guys keep listening you get to know me a little bit as a person I guess and the other people I have on. that can go 2 ways. You can see what kind of idiot I really am. Don't tell anyone.
Let me know if you like these types of episodes where it's just talkin shit or if you want to keep it strictly hc. Thanks again for all the support and listeners. You guys are cool, not me.

Zac Hillard, ex cXc, FTS and motherfuckin' gangsta!
If there is one conversation I can recommend to anyone, it would for sure be this one. Zac was never in a band or has nothing to promote but we go into depth about having to earn his spot in the hardcore scene in Detroit and especially making room for the straightedge kids.
Zac is nothing short of a loyal friend and a great father these days. Back in the 90s and early 2000's he was the enforcer and guy to go to if there was ever any shit that popped off at a show in Detroit. Like I said, I did not know him and had the totally wrong impression. I was afraid of him, I didn't even want to make eye contact because he was literally the hardcore boogeyman.
He knew this, but he goes on to tell me that that was never his intent but he did have a chip on his shoulder for having to earn his spot in the scene and having to fight for what was his as well. He grew up involved in gangs in Flint then eventually started a crew of his own called the Flint Town Crazies. Are you kidding me?! Later only to join the infamous Detroit chapter of the Courage Crew Brotherhood.
Everyone has heard rumors and seen things online and whatever else but I learned a lot from Zac. We were in different generations of hardcore where he was about 10 years ahead of me. I missed the shit we talked about and I am ultimately grateful for what was already there for a lot of people my age that had just found hardcore in the early 2000's. I heard things but had no idea.
This got deep. We spoke on learning when it's time to call the quits and move on with your life. Especially if there's nothing here for you and you're not bettering yourself and growing with age. We spoke on suicide and abuse, fighting and getting shot at. Just a chaotic lifestyle and I didn't know the half of it. I'm sure most didn't. You're in for a treat. I am grateful for this conversation and I am glad we were honest with each other on numerous topics and I am happy he is doing so well in life.

I wanted to have Joe Hyde on because his music has always made a buzz here in Detroit, whether it was Hyde, or the hip hop stuff. I can tell you first hand that some of the lyrics from The Alliance have stuck with me over the past 16 or so years because when you're hearing these things as an impressionable and suggestible teen, it can change the way you look and think about things. We're all shitheads and assholes but these types of bands are what make us. Maybe just a local band but certain hardcore bands influence humans. Yeah, I'm a fuckin fan.
If you go back and listen to any of the albums you will notice it's usually about friendship and loyalty and working harder. A lot of that might stick with you but it's actually harder to live those words. We can always work harder. Especially me!
But anyway this band has always been great, Joe has always been pretty chill and down to earth. I'm glad he took the time to come on because we talked about a bunch of things including the 6 months he spent in Thailand training Thai boxing locally and we talked a lot about that. Reallllly interesting stuff.
Please go check out his new album. You can get it everywhere including spotify and other stuff. And share my shit!

This is a crazy one because I have always been a big fan of The Suicide Machines and they've been around way longer than I have, and even before THPS. Fun story on how they ended up on the original Tony Hawk Pro Skater game.
I thought this was a milestone for me because even though J is a down to earth, straight up punk rocker - he is huge to me. Everyone I have had on, has had an impact on the entire reason I'm doing this. I hop everyone enjoys this and it's an honor over and over again to talk to the people I have.
Thank you for checking it out.

Everyone knows and loves Lenny. Theres's not much I have to say to convince you to listen to this episode. Lenny has been in some great bands including Earthmover, Poison Tongues and Cast in Fire.
We talk about his time in the hardcore scene and move into the direction of his decision to join the US military and become a field medic and moving on to the Medivac position where he's basically saving injured and wounded combat soldiers and bringing them to safety to get the proper treatment. Insane shit!
Well worth the listen. Hope to do this with him again eventually. Great guy!

This was a great conversation with someone who has done a lot not just for Dertroit hardcore, but the entire scene in general. He is a down to earth and humble dude and our conversation went in all sorts of directions but it was interesting! We talked about his relationship with the Detroit scene and how we were assholes at one point and time.
It's ok to grow as a person and move on with the things we done. Sometimes we can laugh at the stupid shit we've done and other times it's more important to recognize the harm we've caused or the people we've hurt. All we can do is recognize it and hopefully grow.
I dont like to leave the description too full of info but we DID get into what was supposed to happen at TIHC 2020. Would've been a hell of a time to go. Dive in and enjoy ya fucks!
Joe has an amazing podcast called This Is Harcore Podcast and he is a great interviewer and has had on some great guests! He's part of the reason I've started this one myself.

In this episode we dive deep into the journey of a long time Detroit straightedge musician. John has been in the hardcore scene since the mid 90s and has done it all. We talk about his path to Straightedge and his musical influences growing up and what got him into hardcore.
He has lived a hell of a life from living in Iowa for college and starting a band out there to meeting and booking shows for some of the most known hardcore bands that were just passing through and eventually moving back to Detroit.
Most notably to me he was the guitarist and would eventually end up singing for one of the hardest and most insane Detroit Straighedge bands, xTYRANTx. We get into a lot of the history of that and we talk about his past bands and adventures on tour. He is only 1 piece of the xTYRANTx legacy and there is so much more to get into. Respect to all involved.
His newest project he is involved in, is called Born of Hate, with members of Walls of Jericho, Cold as Life and King of Clubz. Heavy as fuck! Link at top of page.

Now on to the show.
Ok, so this podcast was awesome because I got to hang out with 2 of my friends I have not seen in quite a while. Jam and Rick! They are 2 of the silliest but realest guys I've known over the years. They always show mad respect for people involved and bring a different style to the scene. The hip hop embedded in the hardcore culture runs deep in Detroit. They take it to 11 when BKC is on the stage and nothing less. They may do something but are in need of a drummer. DO IT!
We had a great time sitting together and laughing and getting crazy. Typical hardcore knuckle heads to say the least but beyond that are the most loyal and creative artists in the Detroit music scene and I'm glad to know them.
Shout out to Joe Hyde for letting me use his band The Alliance as part of my intro until I get a real one. A link to The Alliance bandcamp up top even though they aren't together! Fuck, I'm rambling...see ya!

I asked Roy and Jeff to do my first podcast based on the fact that in my opinion they are one of the greatest Hardcore bands ever. Not just because they're from Detroit, because they're the hardest and most realest. Love em or hate em, what the band has gone through over the past 35 years or so can go up against any legacy of any other and come out on top. To me its a miracle that I was able to sit with 2 of the original founding members and talk some share some old stories because I've mentioned, it was well before my time, They were already done by time I got into hardcore in 2003ish.
There is literally too much to go through with these guys and we will be having them on again to touch on more of the story. With this episode we wanted to go through the brief history of the Cold as Life. Believe me, we are going back in for details sooner or later. This was a good kick off episode to start my podcast off right in my opinion.
We also joined in with Dom from A389 Records and Guitarist in the legendary hardcore band Integrity. He has remastered and produced one of the greatest Cold as Life albums Born to Land Hard. It will be on vinyl, CD and available digitally later in 2021. Terror Zone Podcast will be available on almost all streaming platforms including iTunes and Spotify and Google Podcasts.
I only use Instagram for now but will take action as necessary. Please leave comments and suggestions or send messages to the Instagram. I am open to all ideas and I want to grow this with the scene, not just by myself.
This is for everyone who has ever stepped foot in a hardcore venue or anyone who has ever picked up a mic or a guitar and did something for Hardcore. I'm just trying to keep the conversation going...
Just do me a favor and subscribe and like the videos if you're into them. It'll help get the word out.
